"Squirtle? Squirtle Squirtle!"
"Squirtle!" Blake yelled. He had chosen a Squirtle to begin his journey with.
"That is an excellent choice!" said professor Oak.
"Squirtle, let's go! We have a lon journey ahead of us!" said Blake.
"Wait! You don't want to forget your Pokéballs and Pokédex! You're going to need them to start out!" Oak yelled at a distance.
"Oh, um... Yeah, I guess I will" Blake said, and he ran to Oak and got his supplies.
***Two Hours Later***
Blake had been wandering around the grass just north of Pallet Town, finding nothing. Just as he decided to move on, someone approached him. It was another beginning trainer! They had challenged Blake!
Blake accepted, and clutched his Pokéball on his belt that contained Squirtle. He threw the Pokéball to the ground, unleashing Squirtle.
"Hah, so you're the one that picked Squirtle!" said the trainer. "Get ready to fight! Go, Bulbasaur!"
Blake knew that grass was stonger than water, but since the two Pokémon only knew normal moves so far, it would be an even match.
"Squirtle, Tackle him!" commanded Blake. Squirtle threw himself on Bulbasaur and hit him with the side of his shell.
"Bulbasaur, tackle him back!" Yelled the other trainer. Bulbasaur charged back at Squirtle and hit Squirtle head on.
"Squirtle, are you okay!?" stammered Blake. Squirtle replied with a few "Squirtle"s and nodded his head. Blake knew he was close to victory, but not much closer than his adversary.
"Squirtle, growl!" Blake's command made Bulbasaur weaken, lowering his attack power. "Okay Squirtle, get ready to dodge this attack!"
"Bulbasaur, finish him with a tackle!" yelled the worried trainer. He knew if Squirtle could dodge his Bulbasaur's attack, it was the end. Bulbasaur ran at Squirtle as fast as he could, aiming for his chest. Just as Bulbasaur was about to hit Squirtle, Squirtle turned around and retracted itself into the shell. Bulbasaur's head hit the massive, hard shell. Squirtle rolled on the ground and came out of his shell. Bulbasaur lay on the ground, immobile.
"Alright! We did it, Squirtle!" Blake was proud of Squirtle, and himself. He picked up Squirtle and hugged him.
"Drat! I might have one if your Squirtle didn't pull that cheap trick!" yelled the trainer.
"Cheap trick? I'd call it an excellent defense!" blake argued. He knew no matter what the other trainer said, he had still won fair and square. The other trainer went off, mumbling to himself.
"Hey Squirtle, how are you feeling?"
"Squirtle! Squirtle Squirtle?"
Blake laughed. He though it was odd how he could understand Squirtle's crude language.
"Yeah, Im fine too!" he ansewred. "Let's get going, we need to make it to the Viridian City Pokécenter pretty soon Squirtle!"
"Squirtle, return!" Blake called Squirtle into his Pokéball. Blake then started for Viridian City, very proud of his Pokémon....
